NASCAR Week will culminate on Saturday, April 12, with the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.

In an official proclamation dated March 18, 2008 from the Office of the Governor, Napolitano lauded NASCAR and Phoenix International Raceway’s impact on Arizona’s economy, and made mention of the more than eight million viewers who will watch NASCAR racing from Arizona on television throughout the spring event week.

The proclamation is as follows:

WHEREAS, Arizona is one of only 11 states to host two weekends annually of the prestigious NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and its 36-race schedule; and

WHEREAS, with its two NASCAR weekends, Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) generates more than $450 million in economic impact for Arizona annually; and

WHEREAS, more than 8 million viewers will be tuned in from across the country to take in stunning Arizona sunsets from Phoenix International Raceway during the upcoming April NASCAR race weekend at PIR; and

WHEREAS, Phoenix International Raceway will be celebrating its 20th season of NASCAR races in Arizona, dating back to 1988; and

WHEREAS, legends of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, including Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Tony Stewart, have visited Victory Lane at Phoenix International Raceway; and

WHEREAS, NASCAR Week in Arizona will culminate with Phoenix International Raceway hosting its fourth installment of racing under the lights with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event on Saturday, April 12, 2008;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Janet Napolitano, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim April 6-12, 2008 as
