Lead singer also scheduled to sing National Anthem on raceday
Known for explosive live shows, past and current Billboard-rated singles - including 1990s mainstays such as "You" and "Far Behind" - and powered by the momentum of their first new album in 10 years, Seattle alternative rock band Candlebox will perform on Phoenix International Raceway's Midway stage at 11:30 a.m. on November 9, just hours before the green flag drops on the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Presented by Pennzoil. In addition to the concert, Candlebox lead singer Kevin Martin will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" prior to the start of NASCAR’s Semi-Final Race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Following a rise above the grey Northwest mist to global notoriety in the 1990s - an ascent which saw the rockers go platinum four times over with their self-titled debut album - Candlebox is back again in 2008: older, wiser, and tougher. The band’s summer album release from Silent Majority Records, “Into the Sun,” has proven popular with fans old and new, and of numerous musical tastes. The album’s lead single, “Stand,” broke into the top 15 on Billboard’s U.S. Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts following release, and the band’s current single, “Miss You,” looks to chart even higher. In a connection fitting to NASCAR racing, Candlebox is actively involved in driver safety through the Buckle Up America Challenge (BUAC). Coordinated through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the BLU MOON Foundation, the Buckle Up America Challenge encourages NASCAR fans, communities, companies, organizations, and individuals to “Buckle Up Every Trip, Every Time.” Currently, an alarming one of five Americans still fail to wear a seatbelt for protection while driving or riding in a motor vehicle. NASCAR drivers who have teamed with Candlebox to become involved with the program include Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch, David Ragan and more. More information on the Buckle Up America Challenge may be found at www.myspace.com/buckleupamerica, or by contacting buckleup@blumoon.com. More information on Candlebox can be found at the band’s website, www.myspace.com/candlebox. Tickets to see Candlebox perform at PIR and to experience all of the racing action throughout the November NASCAR event weekend at PIR can be purchased online at www.phoenixraceway.com or over the phone at 1-866-408-RACE (7223).
