Track, motorsports network combine for exciting entertainment venture
Building upon a commitment to enhance the overall fan experience at Phoenix International Raceway, track President Bryan R. Sperber recently announced an innovative collaboration with SPEED™ to provide the latest at-track entertainment for NASCAR fans, as plans were unveiled for "SPEED Cantina" - a one-of-a-kind sports bar & grill set to open over PIR's upcoming November 6-9 event weekend. “The SPEED brand resonates with race fans because it embodies authenticity and fun - two things we hope to bring to life through this partnership at SPEED Cantina,” said Sperber. “Blending that with the live, fun-loving experience of Phoenix International Raceway is sure to be a hit.” SPEED Cantina will sit on the former site of the Oasis Bar and Grill, located just outside of Turn 2 behind the Bobby Allison Grandstands. Designed by the Phoenix-based company Detail Design & Fabrication (DD&F), SPEED Cantina will be characterized by the type of bold and innovative environment that both PIR fans and SPEED viewers have come to expect. The highly-creative bar environment - designed exclusively with NASCAR fans at PIR in mind – will welcome patrons with 32-foot illuminated signage and will feature custom furnishings, a specialty bar, and a number of flat-panel television monitors highlighting live SPEED Channel broadcasts and thrilling on-track racing action at PIR. NASCAR fans attending events at PIR will be able to visit SPEED Cantina at no additional cost. “SPEED is all about being at the track all weekend, all season,” said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. “We’re on site and surrounded by race fans with nearly everything we do, so when PIR offered us the opportunity to fly the SPEED colors on a fresh, cool fan-friendly idea like the SPEED Cantina, we jumped at the chance.” SPEED Cantina will host a Grand Opening party on the evening of Friday, November 7, immediately after the checkered flag flies on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Lucas Oil 150. SPEED is the nation's first and foremost cable television network dedicated to motor sports and the passion for everything automotive.
