PIR's military program assisted by car enthusiasts
Members of Phoenix's Fast Glass Corvette Club are accustomed to the thrills found on the road. After all, what's not to like about being behind the wheel of a classic version of one of America's most popular vehicles of all time? This November at Phoenix International Raceway, the sleek, polished, and powerful Chevrolets of Fast Glass and its affiliate clubs will enjoy a different form of excitement just minutes before the green flag of the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 Presented by Pennzoil. Stars from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, including Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart, will ride with the Fast Glass Corvettes on a parade lap around PIR's one-mile oval during pre-race ceremonies. While Fast Glass's lap around the track with NASCAR's stars will mark the group's first time being involved in the traditional ritual, the club's members are no strangers to the pavement within the blue walls. Just last month, the club enjoyed a Sunday morning drive around the track to prepare for their outing before thousands of fans, the NASCAR community, and the nationwide television audience. To thank Phoenix International Raceway for the opportunity to play such a significant role, the club decided to contribute to PIR's Salute to Military Families program. Fast Glass members took to PIR's Gatorade Victory Lane after their ride, where they met with PIR representatives to donate $850 to the track's effort to thank United States military personnel for their service by welcoming them to a race weekend for the NASCAR experience. "We're really looking forward to NASCAR Day," said Fast Glass member Doug Buckner. The Fast Glass Corvette Club can be found on the Web at www.fastglasscorvetteclub.com. Tickets to all events throughout the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Presented by Pennzoil weekend at Phoenix International Raceway are available at the newly-designed PhoenixRaceway.com or by calling 1-866-408-RACE (7223). The PIR Ticket Office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 125 S. Avondale Blvd., just south of I-10 at Exit 131 in Avondale.
