Local Club Makes Key Donation
PIR's military program assisted by car enthusiasts
Members of Phoenix's Fast Glass Corvette Club are accustomed to the thrills found on the road. After all, what's not to like about being behind the wheel of a classic version of one of America's most popular vehicles of all time? This November at Phoenix International Raceway, the sleek, polished, and powerful Chevrolets of Fast Glass and its affiliate clubs will enjoy a different form of excitement just minutes before the green flag of the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 Presented by Pennzoil. Stars from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, including Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart, will ride with the Fast Glass Corvettes on a parade lap around PIR's one-mile oval during pre-race ceremonies. While Fast Glass's lap around the track with NASCAR's stars will mark the group's first time being involved in the traditional ritual, the club's members are no strangers to the pavement within the blue walls. Just last month, the club enjoyed a Sunday morning drive around the track to prepare for their outing before thousands of fans, the NASCAR community, and the nationwide television audience. To thank Phoenix International Raceway for the opportunity to play such a significant role, the club decided to contribute to PIR's Salute to Military Families program. Fast Glass members took to PIR's Gatorade Victory Lane after their ride, where they met with PIR representatives to donate $850 to the track's effort to thank United States military personnel for their service by welcoming them to a race weekend for the NASCAR experience. Phoenix International Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber announced today that Kristie Maggs has been promoted to Senior Director of Consumer Marketing and Partnership Activation. Since joining PIR in July 2007, Maggs has played an integral role in the marketing efforts of two annual NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends and the upcoming Verizon Indy Car Series – growing the track’s fan base through promotional opportunities with track partners and elevating the PIR brand.
Phoenix International Raceway participated in the inaugural NASCAR West Coast Media day at the Peterson Automotive Museum in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday. The event, which highlights the second season of back-to-back races at Las Vegas, Phoenix and Fontana, featured NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski. In addition to the upcoming 2016 season, the drivers as well as track presidents discussed the return of “NASCAR Goes West” including the Good Sam 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, March 13.
NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 5 Great Clips Chevy SS for Hendrick Motorsports, attended Wednesday’s Phoenix Suns home game versus the Charlotte Hornets at Talking Stick Resort Arena. Kahne was in the Phoenix area to promote the start of the 2016 NASCAR season, the Daytona 500, and the Good Sam 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, which is scheduled for Sunday, March 13.
