SERVICEMASTER CLEAN RECOGNIZES NAVY VET
A local veteran was honored this past weekend for his dedication and service both on and off the track at the ServiceMaster 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. ServiceMaster Clean presented Steve Lohn, a PIR employee who previously served in the Navy, with the ServiceMaster Clean Extra Mile Award for his work at the raceway.
For more than 10 years, Lohn has been a key player at Phoenix International Raceway. In his current role, he oversees the safer wall and track fence repair team for all the track’s events.
“Steve has been a partner to Phoenix International Raceway and has loyally managed the standby team for the catch fence and safer wall repairs for years,” said Lee Baumgarten, director of operations at Phoenix International Raceway. “His presence at the track instills confidence in the NASCAR team of officials that PIR is prepared and ready to react, if needed, in this key area of track repairs. Steve always has a smile on his face and is ready to help anyone at any time.”
Away from the track, Lohn owns his own company called Metal Tec fabrication. The 13-year-old business does all of the SAFER wall and fence repairs for Phoenix International Raceway, Auto Club Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“Lohn’s commitment to the track and its safety embodies the values of the ServiceMaster Extra Mile Award,” said Tom Coba, president of ServiceMaster Clean and Merry Maids. “His enthusiasm, work ethic and willingness to help have earned him this recognition.”
Since its inception in 2010, the ServiceMaster Clean Extra Mile Award has recognized 38 track team members across the country. Award recipients have been key members of full-time track staff and dedicated volunteers selected by track management personnel.
Each award winner’s name is engraved on a plaque that is displayed at the track where the individual works or volunteers. A personal plaque also is presented to recipients during the track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend.

Phoenix International Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber announced today that Kristie Maggs has been promoted to Senior Director of Consumer Marketing and Partnership Activation. Since joining PIR in July 2007, Maggs has played an integral role in the marketing efforts of two annual NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends and the upcoming Verizon Indy Car Series – growing the track’s fan base through promotional opportunities with track partners and elevating the PIR brand.
Phoenix International Raceway participated in the inaugural NASCAR West Coast Media day at the Peterson Automotive Museum in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday. The event, which highlights the second season of back-to-back races at Las Vegas, Phoenix and Fontana, featured NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski. In addition to the upcoming 2016 season, the drivers as well as track presidents discussed the return of “NASCAR Goes West” including the Good Sam 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, March 13.
NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 5 Great Clips Chevy SS for Hendrick Motorsports, attended Wednesday’s Phoenix Suns home game versus the Charlotte Hornets at Talking Stick Resort Arena. Kahne was in the Phoenix area to promote the start of the 2016 NASCAR season, the Daytona 500, and the Good Sam 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, which is scheduled for Sunday, March 13.
