Fans attending the Verizon IndyCar Series Phoenix Grand Prix at Phoenix International Raceway will be entertained with live music prior to the race as popular multi-platinum rock group Better Than Ezra will perform at the PIR Main Stage at 4:15 p.m. MST on Saturday, April 2.
The concert, which resulted from a partnership between PIR and Niner Sports & Entertainment, is just one part of race-day excitement and is free to all fans with a grandstand ticket for the Phoenix Grand Prix. The band has released eight studio albums since forming in 1988, the most recent one being 2014's All Together Now featuring “Crazy Lucky.” They are best known for their 1993 platinum album Deluxe and the 1995 single “Good”, which hit No. 1 on the Hot Modern Rocks Tracks charts.
Hailing from New Orleans, the group includes frontman and songwriter Kevin Griffin, bassist Tom Drummond and drummer Michael Jerome.
Better Than Ezra enjoyed success after popular shows such as Desperate Housewives licensed their song “Juicy,” and Taylor Swift attested to their appeal by covering their track “Breathless.” The group recently wrapped the 2015 Under the Sun Tour performing with friends Sugar Ray and Eve6.
More than just a musical group, the band founded the Better Than Ezra Foundation which is committed to raising funds to support the renewal of structural and cultural heritage as well as education in New Orleans and South Louisiana. The Better Than Ezra Foundation has raised over $1.5M for various causes in and around New Orleans.
