Phoenix Raceway will host a star-studded pre-race ceremony for the semi-final race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup as legendary boxer Vinny Paz will greet drivers on stage as the Grand Marshal prior to the Can-Am 500 on Sunday, Nov. 13. Also, local Olympian Brady Ellison will serve in the same role on Saturday for the Ticket Galaxy 200, joined by Harlem Globetrotter and Phoenix native Anthony Buckets” Blakes as honorary starter.

Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza is known as one of boxing’s most charismatic and exciting fighters and will bring the same energy as Grand Marshal for the Can-Am 500. Since his professional debut in 1983, the five-time world champion fighter has earned titles in lightweight, junior middleweight and super middleweight divisions. He has delivered top performances throughout his career, including a victory over Hall of Famer and boxing icon Roberto Duran.

Vinny Paz's incredible true story, called one of the most inspiring and unlikely comebacks in sports history, can soon be seen in the upcoming film BLEED FOR THIS. Miles Teller (Whiplash, Divergent) stars as Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza, a local Providence boxer who shot to stardom after winning two world title fights. After a near-fatal car accident leaves Vinny with a broken neck, he is told he may never walk again. Against all odds and doctor’s orders, renowned trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart) agrees to help Vinny return to the ring just a year after the accident for what could be the last fight of his life.  BLEED FOR THIS is executive produced by critically acclaimed Martin Scorsese and directed by Ben Younger, and it opens nationwide in theaters Nov. 18.

Three-time Olympian Brady Ellison, the Grand Marshal of the Ticket Galaxy 200, is a full-time archer coming off an individual bronze and Team USA silver-medal winning performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The 27-year old from Globe, Ariz. added to his silver medal from the London Olympics and is known as one of the world’s most successful recurve archers. He has maintained a top-10 world ranking since 2009 and is married to fellow archer Toja Cerne-Ellison of Slovenia.

Born in and raised in Phoenix, Anthony “Buckets” Blakes is a guard for the world-renown Harlem Globetrotters. Buckets is a 14-year veteran of the squad after growing up a star at the local Trevor Browne High School and playing as college standout at University of Wyoming. He broke the Guinness World Records® record for the most basketball underhanded half-court shots in one minute, earning six and made the highest shot in team history in March 2016, hovering almost 300 feet above Georgia’s Stone Mountain and making a basketball hoop located below.

As the semifinal race in the Chase for the top-three series in NASCAR, Phoenix Raceway is set to become an even more dramatic destination in this year’s NASCAR season, as the Chase format was extended to both the NASCAR XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series. For the first time ever, each race during the Can-Am 500 weekend will determine the final four contenders that will advance to compete for each series’ title – the Championship 4.

Tickets for the upcoming NASCAR race weekend start at just $35. Individual tickets and season tickets are available online at PhoenixRaceway.com, by phone at 1-866-408-RACE (7223) or in person at the PIR ticket office.
