Phoenix Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber announced today that Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Denny Barney will serve as the Grand Marshal for the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix on Saturday, April 29.

Barney, who was unanimously elected chairman in January 2017, will proclaim the most famous words in motorsports – “Drivers, start your engines!” – before the green flag waves under the lights at Phoenix Raceway.

First elected in 2012, Barney last served as board chairman in 2014. He now leads the five-member board and his district covers much of the East Valley including Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, Tempe, Sun Lakes, west Mesa and Ahwatukee.

Barney earned his law degree from Arizona State University and is a principal in ARCUS Private Capital Solutions. Thoroughly involved throughout the community, he is on the board of directors on the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) and previously served on a Planning and Zoning Commission and on the Maricopa County Board of Health.

The Verizon IndyCar Series Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix will cap off the Ultimate Open-Wheel Weekend at Phoenix Raceway that will feature USAC Silver Crown Series and the Quarter Midget races as well as the Vintage Desert Classic. Grandstand tickets are available online, by phone at 1-866-408-RACE (7223) or in person at the Phoenix Raceway ticket office.
