Look out for No. 5 up front in Saturday's SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™.

Mark Martin scored his first pole in 28 NASCAR national series starts at Phoenix International Raceway with a lap of 26.903 seconds (133.814 mph) during Sprint Cup Series qualifying Friday afternoon, outdoing the 26.921-second circuit turned by front row neighbor Kyle Busch.

The pole was Martin’s third of the season. His previous high start in Sprint Cup Series action in Phoenix was third, which occurred twice – in 1991 and 1993.

Kurt Busch joins his brother in the top three, and Jeff Gordon will start alongside Busch on the outside of the second row. Brian Vickers, Tony Stewart, Paul Menard, David Reutimann, Regan Smith, and three-time defending Phoenix International Raceway winner Jimmie Johnson comprise the remainder of the top 10.

The SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Be a part of it all at PIR!
